Due to extensive lobbying by the private sector (i.e., the cabs and shuttles) the Green Line (light rail) does not go into LAX. You can get to the Aviation Blvd. station of the Green Line via a free shuttle. You can also get to "Lot C" and the City Bus Transit Center via a free shuttle.

At the City Bus Center you can catch busses from LA Metro, Santa Monica (Big Blue Bus), Cluver City (Green Bus) and Torrance. Full fares are:

• Culver City $.75, interagency transfer $.25, local transfer free.
• Santa Monica $.75, interagency transfer $.25, local transfer free.
• Torrance $.50, interagency transfer $.40, local transfer $.40.
• LA Metro $1.25, interagency transfer $.25, no local transfer but a Metro Day Pass cost $3.00 and is good on any Metro Bus or Metro Rail (i.e., Green, Blue, Red, Orange and Gold Lines)

Seniors and persons with disabilities qualify for lower fares.
If you will need a transfer get it when you first get on and pay your fare.

To get to:

• The San Fernando Valley - Take the FlyAway to Van Nuys for $3.00.
• Downtown LA - Take the FlyAway to Union Station for $3.00.
• Hollywood - either
  • Take the FlyAway to Union Station for $3.00,
    then take the Red Line from Union Station to Hollywood for $1.25.
    Total cost $4.25. Total time approx 1:35
    OR
  • Take the free shuttle to the Aviation Blvd. Green Line Station,
    then buy a $3.00 Metro Day Pass and take the Green Line (toward Norwalk) to the Wilmington / Rosa Parks Station,
    then go down one level and take the Blue Line (toward LA) to the 7th Metro Station (i.e., the end of the line),
    then go down one level and take the Red Line (be sure it says North Hollywood) to Hollywood.
    Total cost $3.00. Total time approx 1:35
• Long Beach - either
  • Take the free shuttle to the Aviation Blvd. Green Line Station,
    then take the Green Line (toward Norwalk) to the Wilmington / Rosa Parks Station for $1.25,
    then go down one level and take the Blue Line to Long Beach for $1.25
    Total cost $2.50. Total time approx :55
    OR
  • Take the free shuttle to Lot C and the City Bus Center,
    then take the Metro 232 bus to Long Beach.
    Total cost $1.25. Total time approx 1:35, but it is a slightly more scenic route through the beach towns.
• Pasadena - either
  • Take the FlyAway to Union Station for $3.00,
    then take the Gold Line from Union Station to Pasadena for $1.25.
    Total cost $4.25. Total time approx 1:25
    OR
  • Take the free shuttle to the Aviation Blvd. Green Line Station,
    then buy a $3.00 Metro Day Pass and take the Green Line (toward Norwalk) to the Wilmington / Rosa Parks Station,
    then go down one level and take the Blue Line (toward LA) to the 7th Metro Station (i.e., the end of the line),
    then go down one level and take the Red Line to Union Station where you use the Alameda Street exit,
    then, coming out of the Alameda Street exit, make the first three right turns to get to the Gold Line to Pasadena.
    Total cost $3.00. Total time approx 1:55
• Marina del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica -
  Take the free shuttle to Lot C and the City Bus Center,
  then take the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus #3 for $.75.
  If you want to get to the beach at Venice you should request a (free) local transfer, and get off at Lincoln and California where you can catch the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus #2 to the beach.
• Culver City, Westwood, UCLA -
  Take the free shuttle to Lot C and the City Bus Center,
  then take the Culver City Green Bus #6 for $.75.
• Torrance -
  Take the free shuttle to Lot C and the City Bus Center,
  then take the Torrance Bus #8 for $.50.
• El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach - either
  • Take the free shuttle to Lot C and the City Bus Center,
    then take the Metro 232 bus to Long Beach.
    OR
  • Take the free shuttle to Lot C and the City Bus Center,
    then take the Metro 439 bus to Redondo Beach.
    NOTE: The 232 stays on Sepulveda; the 439 goes much closer to the beach.
• Beverly Hills -
  Take the free shuttle to Lot C and the City Bus Center,
  then take the Culver City Green Bus #6 to Wilshire and Westwood for $.75 plus $.25 for an interagency transfer,
  Then take the Metro 720 Rapid to Beverly Hills.
  NOTES:
  The Rapid only stops in Beverly Hills at Santa Monica, Beverly, Robertson and La Cienega.
  • Fare for the return trip is $1.25 on the 720 plus $.25 for an interagency transfer.
• (as promised) Disneyland either -
  • Take the free shuttle to the Aviation Blvd. Green Line Station,
    then take the Green Line to the Norwalk Station for $1.25,
    then take the Metro 460 to Disneyland for $1.25.
    Total cost $2.50. Total time approx 2:00
    OR
  • Take the free shuttle to Lot C and the City Bus Center,
    then take the Metro 232 bus to Long Beach Blvd and 6th Street for $1.25 and buy a transfer for $.25,
    then walk across Long Beach Blvd. and catch the Long Beach 91, 92, 93, 94 or 96 Zap to 7th and Channel for the transfer and $.50 for an interagency transfer,
    Then take the OCTA 50 to Harbor and Katella.
    Total cost $2.00. Total time approx 3:00
    OR
  • Take the free shuttle to Lot C and the City Bus Center,
    then take the Torrance Bus #8 to Hawthorne and Torrance for $.50 plus $.40 for a transfer,
    then walk across Hawthorne and catch the Torrance 3 to Long Beach Blvd and 6th Street for the transfer plus $.40 for another transfer,
    then walk across Long Beach Blvd. and catch the Long Beach 91, 92, 93, 94 or 96 Zap to 7th and Channel for the transfer and $.50 for an interagency transfer,
    Then take the OCTA 50 to Harbor and Katella.
    Total cost $1.80. Total time approx 3:00
    NOTE: The Green Line to the Metro 460 can actually be faster than taking a car in rush hour traffic.

To go shopping:

• Malls
  • Howard Hughes Center is 15 minutes from the City Bus Center on Culver City 6.
  • Manhattan Village is less than 20 minutes from the City Bus Center on Metro 232.
  • Fox Hills is 20 minutes from the City Bus Center on Culver City 6.
  • South Bay Galleria is 30 minutes from the City Bus Center on Torrance 8.
  • Third Street Promenade is 40 minutes from the City Bus Center on Santa Monica 3.
  • Del Amo is 45 minutes from the City Bus Center on Torrance 8.
• Other things:
  The Culver City 6, Santa Monica 3 and Metro 42, 315 and 439(LA) all go to Sepulveda and Manchester (approx 5 minutes north of the City Bus Center). The shopping center on the southwest corner has a drug store, a Mervyn's Department Store and a Trader Joe's. If you need snacks, Trader Joe's has an excellent assortment of dried fruits, nuts, breads and cheeses at very reasonable prices. They also have a good selection of wines (for gifts) including some very inexpensive but quite palatable ones (e.g., Charles Shaw (2 buck Chuck's) for $1.99).

  On the three blocks of Sepulveda south of Manchester you can also find office supply stores, a grocery store and many restaraunts and other shops. A personal favorite for Mexican food is El Tarasco one half block south of Manchester on the east side of Sepulveda.
